Across the Universe

The story is about two young people who fell in love with each other, it looks like something usual but it's not. They lived in the 60's in the middle of the war, and they had different point of views about everything and loving wasn't enough to stick them together. Beattle's songs , and all 60's fashion entertain us to get thinking how hard was to face that time and how they pursued their dreams. This above picture shows when he was high and trying to get some inspiration from the moment he was in, and for me the strawberries show how many soldiers have died in that war for nothing, how the war was bad and in someway it had influenced everybody around him.
The movie has a lot of thinking and many things behind a simply love story.
I really liked it !

My Presentation

Metacognitive strategies
The metacognitive-like processes are ubiquitous; especially, when it comes to the discussion of self-regulated learning. Being engaged in metacognition is a salient feature of good self-regulated learners. Groups reinforcing collective discussion of metacognition is a salient feature of self-critical and self-regulating social groups. The activities of strategy selection and application include those concerned with an ongoing attempt to plan, check, monitor, select, revise, evaluate, etc. Metacognition is 'stable' in that learners' initial decisions derive from the pertinent fact about their cognition through years of learning experience. Simultaneously, it is also 'situated' in the sense that it depends on learners' familiarity with the task, motivation, emotion, and so forth. Individuals need to regulate their thoughts about the strategy they are using and adjust it based on the situation to which the strategy is being applied.
Metacognition helps people to perform many cognitive tasks more effectively.[1] Strategies for promoting metacognition include self-questioning (e.g. "What do I already know about this topic? How have I solved problems like this before?"), thinking aloud while performing a task, and making graphic representations (e.g. concept maps, flow charts, semantic webs) of one's thoughts and knowledge. Carr, 2002argues that the physical act of writing plays a large part in the development of metacognitive skills (as cited in Gammil, D., 2006, p. 754.

Immersion Program

Language immersion is a method of teaching a second language (also called L2, or the target language). Unlike a more traditional language course, where the target language is simply the subject material, language immersion uses the target language as a teaching tool, surrounding or "immersing" students in the second language. In-class activities, such as math, social studies, and history, and those outside of the class, such as meals or everyday tasks, are conducted in the target language. Today's immersion programs are based on those founded in the 1960s in Canada when middle-income English-speaking parents convinced educators to establish an experimental French immersion program enabling their children 'to appreciate the traditions and culture of French-speaking Canadians as well as English-speaking Canadians'.[1]

In the United States, and since the 1980s, dual immersion programs have grown for a number of reasons: competition in a global economy, a growing population of second language learners, and the successes of previous programs [2]. Language immersion classes can now be found throughout the US, in urban and suburban areas, in dual-immersion and single language immersion, and in an array of languages. As of May 2005, there were 317 dual immersion programs in US elementary schools, providing instruction in 10 languages, and 96% of programs were in Spanish [3]

Classroom Speaking Activities

This is the summary of a text we had read in class, we were supposed to do it in groups:

In the text, the author talks about how to deal with activities that involve speaking and working in groups in a classroom. He divides the activities in three different groups.

> Acting from a script: It’s basically a role-play activity, where they have to act out scenes that are given by the teacher. In most cases the students have to go to the front of the classroom and present what they have prepared. The author enforces that the teacher needs to be careful when choosing the first students who go to the front. He says we have to ask the most confident students first and then go to the others.

> Communication games: They are normally imported from radio and TV. They normally work in pairs or groups like a competition that can involve scores and prizes. One example of it is the “Twenty Questions game”, a guessing game where one student answers questions made by his classmates that are trying to guess what he/she has in mind.

> Discussion: In this activity, the students have to discuss about a difficult or popular situation. He suggests that the students first write the topics that they agree and disagree and then rehearse in small groups and only after that, the teacher should open the discussion to the whole classroom. He also brings a real problem: when students are not comfortable to give their opinion and that’s why he suggests the written and the small groups’ preparation.

The Boxer

The Boxer
Simon & Garfunkel
Composição: Simon and Garfunkel
I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles
such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station running scared
Laying low,
Seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know
Lie la lie ...

Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers,
Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare,
There were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there
Lie la lie ...

Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
And wishing I was gone
Going home
Where the New York City winters
Aren't bleeding me
leading me, going home
In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders
Of ev'ry glove that layed him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving"
But the fighter still remains
Lie la lie ...

My way

My way is another vision from Marcelo Nova for " American's way of life " . The first parody I've seen , my way by Marcelo Nova and Falcao, both very interesting.
Madonna had made a song called " American Life" , she critizes it even though she is a product of that.
it's very good to think about it specially us , brands of these american way of life

Portifolio

My Way
Marcelo Nova
Composição: Anka / François / Revaux / Thimbault / Marcelo Nova
E agora que o fim esta perto
E eu encaro esse momento
Meus amigos, eu vou confessar
Os meus pecados e sentimentos
Vivi a mil por hora
E por caminhos que eu nem lembro agora
E mais, bem mais eu sei
I did it my way!!!

Remorsos, eu tenho alguns
Mas mesmo assim
São muito poucos
Eu fiz o que tinha que fazer
Enquanto voces gritavam
Bota pra foder
Eu planejei
Cada jogada
Cada trepada
Por essa estrada
E mais, bem mais eu sei
I did it my way

Naqueles tempos
Eu era um menino
Que já sabia, do meu destino
E caminhando de norte a sul
Eu vi muita gente, tomar no cu
Eu entendi
E não esqueci
I did it my way

Andei, sorri, chorei
E me entreguei
Ao meu trabalho
E agora
Que passou o tempo
Eu acho chato, chato, chato
Pra caralho
Não ter
O que prometer
E não saber mais
O que dizer
Ooo não!!!
Ooo não!!!
I did it my away

Pra que serve o homem
O que é que ele tem
Ou é um puta barão
Ou João ninguém
Fazer as coisas
Que desejou
Comer as mulheres
Com quem sonhou
Eu me fodi
Mas resisti
I did it my, my, my way.

Pink & Floyd- Another brick in the wall - Parody
Analyzing one of the biggest hits - another brick in the wall- , we had to make a parody but first we had to get on track and analyzing it , things behind it, we've watched the videoclip , we made it in groups, i've written with Tabata so it is the same as hers.
here it goes my parody :

I wanna go to the Mall

I don't want to pay attention
To the Teacher so slow
I hope my docs come soon
Uniso, leave my pocket alone
Hey, Uniso! My knowledge is gone
in the end, I just wanna go the mall
My friend, I just wanna go the mall
My friend you'll become nothing at all.

Vigotsky and ZPD

Zone of proximal development

One essential tenet in Vygotsky's theory is the notion of the existence of what he called the "zone of proximal development". Zone of proximal development is the difference between the child's capacity to solve problems on his own, and his capacity to solve them with assistance. In other words, the actual developmental level refers to all the functions and activities that a child can perform on his own, independently without the help of anyone else. On the other hand, the zone of proximal development includes all the functions and activities that a child or a learner can perform only with the assistance of someone else. The person in this scaffolding process, providing non-intrusive intervention, could be an adult (parent, teacher, caretaker, language instructor) or another peer who has already mastered that particular function.

An interesting analogy comes to my mind when I think of zone of proximal development. In mechanics, when you adjust the timing of an engine, you set it slightly ahead of the highest compression moment in order to maximize power and performance.

Vygotsky's zone of proximal development has many implications for those in the educational milieu. One of them is the idea that human learning presupposes a specific social nature and is part of a process by which children grow into the intellectual life of those around them (Vygotsky, 1978). According to Vygotsky (1978), an essential feature of learning is that it awakens a variety of internal developmental processes that are able to operate only when the child is in the action of interacting with people in his environment and in cooperation with his peers.

Therefore, when it comes to language learning, the authenticity of the environment and the affinity between its participants are essential elements to make the learner feel part of this environment. These elements are rarely predominant in conventional classrooms.

This is a slice of I want to keep learning at college and in my life, I've already tried to make it real as a teacher, and it has been worked! I don't know why it has fascinated me so much, maybe it's because I could cope theory with practice, and that's amazing. His experience in knowledge is amazing, and amazes everybody who really wants to be a teacher or a professor, Thank You, Professor Daniela for this wonderful experience, and I see how you deal with us using this approach .

Marketing

Marketing To Children

It's really common, to see little kids who sometimes don't even know how to spell " I want ", trying to get their parents to buy them something . It can be, toys, food, school supplies, and things like these.
However, how these little and lovely angels, start doing such a thing ? By Nagging!
I've found a whole industry, with a lot of tools.
When we see a kid nagging , the first thought, is to feel shamed by the parent, and say " I'd never , ever let allow my son to do it, but who has never nagged? and how do children do it?
Children's Advertisement , has some special tools to get sucessed on what they are trying to pursue .
Does it Work? Is it a fair way to get more and more sales all over the world ? Do kids know how to get money? how a company works?
In the following video, we can see how marketing for kids works:

Let's watch a video from Lego Ad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olUDVSUBaMs

Some tools used to get children's attention :

* action
* Colorful Toys
* There's a song to make it more interesting
* 3d Images

We Know that when you buy these produtcs, they don't come with music, 3d images.
But this is how it's been sold all over the years.
We live in a capistalism system, nowadays is much better" to have" than to be , and we can see where it has begun, in a world that parents don't have time to their children, so they prefer just agree and let them get what they want for not feeling guilty inside.
The Answer for that is pretty simple, being a parent is not enough, kids nag, beg but for boundries. So We are the ones who know what's better for our little babies and show them that wonderland sometimes is all in our minds.
